The Chinhoyi Seven Heroes Monument
The Chinhoyi Seven Heroes Monument and field museum is located in Mashonaland West Province just 5km from Chinhoyi town. This memorial marks the place where the Seven Heroes of the April 28, 1966 Battle of Chinhoyi perished in a fiery military contact with the Rhodesian Forces. The battle signalled the beginning of the armed struggle that brought independence to Zimbabwe on April 18, 1980. Heroes featured are Godfrey Dube, David Guzuzu, Arthur Maramba, Godwin Manyerenyere, Simon Chimboza, Chubby Sawana, and Christopher Chatambudza.
When travel resumes, we encourage all Zimbabweans to take a tour of the Chinhoyi Seven heroes Monument to understand the History of Zimbabwe.
Admission is currently free.
From the field museum also take time to visit the Chinhoyi Seven old Historical Building in Chinhoyi and the drive along the heroes seven streets, Chinhoyi Caves and Korekore Cultural Village.
Let’s all be responsible travellers; let’s respect our fallen heroes and heroines.
