SANGANAI/HLANGANANI INTERNATIONAL BUYERS JET IN

The first batch of international buyers from major source markets have started arriving in the country for pre-tours ahead of Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority acting chief executive Mr Givemore Chidzidzi has said.

The 12th edition of Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo runs from September 12 to 14 at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre (Also known as the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair Grounds) in Bulawayo.

In a media briefing Monday 2 September in Harare, Mr Chidzidzi, said over 170 buyers are expected to attend Sanganai/Hlanganani expo.

“For us Sanganai/Hlanganani has already started with the arrival of the first batch of international buyers in the country. We are looking at 170 hosted buyers who are coming and 25 international media houses. There are 260 exhibitors at and also 20 countries. Botswana has come up in a big way with 15 exhibitors at Sanganai/Hlanganani,” he said.

Mr Chidzidzi said some of the highlights at this year’s Sanganai/Hlanganani include the online appointment for buyers and sellers.

“As we speak both buyers and sellers will initiate appointments online and they are able to maximize business interactions on the platform. As they can already book for an appointment online and then meet later at the show,” he said.

Another highlight is the famed Speed Networking where buyers and sellers derive maximum value since they meet and interact face to face under one roof.

The Hosted Buyers Tours will also provide ZTA with a win-win situation whereby the service providers have the opportunity to subsidize products and then get the exposure and the publicity they need.

Over and above this, Mr Chidzidzi said, there would be special events such as the Tourism Research Conference organised by the Tourism Educators and Researchers Association of Zimbabwe, which has since been proposed to become an annual event.

“There is also the Culinary Tourism Demos whereby people our local food and culture will be showcased. Zimbabwean Chefs will be showcasing their culinary skills and innovations.

“We are also going to have a Women in Tourism Capacity Building Workshop in line with our thrust to strengthen women participation in the tourism sector in accordance with the UNWTO Agenda. We are happy to note that most accommodation facilities in the host city Bulawayo are run by women so we are bringing them together to discuss and share ideas. In a bid not to leave out the youths Sanganai/Hlanganani will again this year feature the Sustainable Tourism Schools Quiz for which 30 schools have registered to participate,” he said.

Mr Chidzidzi said that the ZTA has given a 50 percent discount to women and youth in tourism who will be exhibiting at Sanganai/Hlanganani.

Commenting on the fuel situation, Mr Chidzidzi said they were pleased that the fuel supplies situation had improved over the past week.

“It is encouraging that the fuel situation has improved and that those who want to do business are able to get fuel and make their way to Bulawayo,” he said.
