The Airports Company of Zimbabwe (Pvt) Ltd (ACZ) was established in 2018 through an Act of Parliament – The Civil Aviation Amendment Act (No.10 of 2018) with a mandate to:
a) To acquire, establish, develop, maintain, manage, control and operate airports in Zimbabwe,
b) To operate as a full commercial entity putting more focus on business development and commercial activities,
c) To manage all airport concessions and contracts thereof (real estate, car park, security, cleaning and handling of passengers, baggage, cargo and freighting at international and domestic terminals).
d) Develop route networks that utilize national airports through various route development initiatives and collaboratively participate in destination marketing initiatives by the trade and tourism industry.
e) To develop identified airport infrastructure to become a regional air transportation, cargo and passenger hubs, and support airline hub operations,
f) To provide safety and security measures for the handling of passengers, baggage, cargo and aircraft together with the personnel requisite thereto, in accordance with local and international standards and recommended best practices and procedures.
ACZ currently manages and operates a network of eight (8) airports in Zimbabwe; the airports are strategically located around the country, thereby providing the most direct and fastest access to the country’s tourist resort and trade areas. The largest being Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, the main gateway into Zimbabwe (currently being upgraded) followed by Victoria Falls International Airport which provides access to the Majestic Victoria Falls, One of the Seven Natural Wonders of The World and a World Heritage Site. Then, the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport linking to the second largest city in Zimbabwe and the country’s Industrial hub and surrounding heritage and safari tourist attractions and five (5) regional airports (Masvingo, Buffalo Range, Hwange, Kariba and Charles Prince). These airports are strategically located to serve tourism and trade.
