Importance of local communities in tourism
Local communities are regarded as an important asset in tourism development. Their participation plays a major role to the sustainability of the tourism industry. Tourism has a unique ability to make sure nobody is left behind, as recognized in this years’ World Tourism Day 2021 theme: Tourism for Inclusive Growth. The sector is a recognized pillar of Sustainable Development Goals, supporting communities particularly no poverty, gender equality, decent work and economic growth and reduce inequalities.
When we travel let us support the communities, engage in activities they offer such as cultural village tours, buy crafts from them, engage local tour guiding amongst others. Not only does this create jobs within the attractions thus eradicating poverty but it also supports gender equality and inclusive decent jobs for all.
We encourage all citizens to take pride in local cuisines and take time to eat out.
