Canoeing -Victoria Falls

Take a canoe safari with Wild Horizons and get the chance to experience all that the stunning and charming Upper Zambezi River has to offer. Get to experience some small but exciting rapids, lunches taken on remote sandbanks, overnighting in

the pristine Zambezi National Park, drifting down seldon seen channels and all the excitement of the great African outdoors with its rich diversity of mammal, bird, fish and reptile life.

About Wild Horizons Canoe Trips

Wild Horizons are the longest established canoe company on the Zambezi River and have off-shore Public Liability. They have 24-hour radio back up with M.A.R.S. (Medical Air Rescue Service) and all guides carry mobile radios and vehicles are fitted with radios for safety and logistical convenience. Thier canoe trips carry first aid kits, which are checked and resupplied regularly. All Wild Horizons guides have passed their National Parks Canoe Guides License under the appropriate authority and attend regular canoe safety meetings.

With a choice of trips ranging from the sedately Wine route to the Multi-Day Safari, all of the animal life and and the relaxed environs of the river are yours to savour at will.

Zambezi Breakfast Drift
Clients are transferred into the Zambezi National Park where they will have a safety briefing prior to the canoe trip commencing. Our experienced and knowledgeable guides will paddle you down this flat water stretch of river past hippo, elephant and stunning river scenery and this activity provides the perfect opportunity for them to enjoy the trees, plants & wildlife with their Guide. Explore hidden overhung channels as you sit back, relax and enjoy the stillness and silence of the morning as the sun rises over the Upper Zambezi River.

Continental breakfast is served on one of the Islands along the way. The trip finishes within sight of the spray of the Victoria Falls. What a way to start the day!

Zambezi Drift - Wine Route
Clients are transferred into the Zambezi National Park where they will have a safety briefing prior to the canoe trip commencing. Our experienced and knowledgeable guides will paddle you down this flat water stretch of river past hippo, elephant and stunning river scenery and this activity provides the perfect opportunity for them to enjoy the trees, plants & wildlife with their Guide. Explore hidden overhung channels as you sit back, relax and enjoy the sunset over the Upper Zambezi River. A sunset cruise with a difference, this is a perfect photographic opportunity, and clients can enjoy the selection of soft drinks, beer, wine and snacks provided in their canoes.

The trip finishes within sight of the spray of the Victoria Falls. What a way to end the day!

Upper Zambezi Canoe Trip
Clients are collected at approximately 7.00am and are transferred on a game drive in an open vehicle into the Zambezi National Park where they have the chance to see some game on the way. After tea/coffee & breakfast clients receive a thorough safety briefing which covers safety conditions of the river, rapids, canoeing instruction, and general information. Once everyone is comfortable and ready, the trip starts.

On these trips clients paddle their own canoes, following their qualified Canoe Guide as he leads the way. The trip is spent canoeing - (15kms) - downstream, running small grade one and two rapids, exploring channels, bird and game viewing whislt making their way to the dis-embarkment point where a tasty lunch and cold minerals and beers are served. Clients are back in Victoria Falls by about 14h30, allowing them enough time to do another activity in the afternoon. Routes taken on this trip can vary due to logistical, road and weather conditions.

Multi Day Canoe Trips
The Upper Zambezi River is a vast contrast from the rapids of the Gorge below Victoria Falls. Wild Horizons Upper Zambezi Canoeing offering Two and Three Day canoe trips. These diverse safaris are inclusive of game drives in the Zambezi National Park, riverside (fully backed up) camping, Grade 1 and 2 rapids, picnics on remote islands and exploring secret overhung channels. The silence of our inflatable two-man canoes make them unbeatable for bird and game viewing. Paddle for the whole day to arrive at your riverside camp already set up for you. Tents, beds, matresses and food all prepared and awaiting your arrival. Spend the night in the wilds of the Zambezi National Park, with the chance of seeing some night game. Wake to the beauty of the morning and paddle some more.

Depending on your choice of trip, these safaris can be combined with walking safaris in the Zambezi National Park where your armed guide will show you some of the interesting things in the bush and you might see some wildlife up close and personal! A wonderful experience.

Difficulty
The majority of people who join trips are first time canoeists. No previous experience is required and our staff are specially trained to prepare and guide you through the day. Children from 7 upwards can canoe if accompanied by a parent and fit into a lifejacket. Management retain the right to refuse a child who they feel is unsuitable for the activity for any reason.

Boats
All canoe trips are run in self-paddle two man inflatable canoes. The Zambezi Breakfast Drift and the Zambezi Wine Route are run in 3 man fibreglass Canadian canoes with a paddler provided. Valuables - all clients are advised to leave valuables at their hotels.
