2004 has been a difficult year characterised by significant changes to the macro-economic environment, providing numerous challenges for the business in the country. The tourism sector has been no exception in this challenging environment. However the industry kept on its toes by ever maintaining presence in the traditional and emerging tourist markets. Despite the challenges, the year 2004 has seen a number of developments in the tourism sector, which have kept the flag of hope higher for all players. These include the signing of the Approved Destination Status Memorandum of Understanding and the subsequent launch of the inaugural flight to China, the emerging market. The introduction of the Air Zimbabwe flight to Beijing makes Zimbabwe the second African country flying directly to this market.
