In an interview with ZBC News, ZTA Head Corporate Affairs, Mr Sugar Chagonda said this year’s Sanganai/Hlanganani expo will be pushing forward two issues that are domestic tourism and MICE business that encompasses meetings, incentives, conferences and events. He said domestic tourism will be given prominence at the expo because it accounts for more than 70% of the total earnings in tourism hence the need to continue marketing and encouraging locals to take an interest in their tourism products.
Mr Chagonda said Saturday the 12th of October will be a family day that will see the tourism sector unveiling more affordable products to families so as to encourage domestic tourism. Domestic tourism keeps the tourism industry afloat when there is a decrease in arrivals from the regional and international tourists. Over 30 international buyers, investors and media practitioners are already in the country for the Sanganai/Hlanganani expo.
Nearly 1400 international and local exhibitors have confirmed participation. By 2015 plans are that the country wants to achieve growth, regain lost markets, promote domestic tourism and penetrate new markets to enable the sector to contribute 15% of the gross domestic product.
